How to get Winter's Little Helper
Starting December 25, characters level 20 or higher can open the Gaily Wrapped Present beneath the Winter Veil tree in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. The present contains one of four companion items: Red Helper Box, Green Helper Box, Snowman Kit, or Jingling Bell. Red Helper Box summons Winter's Little Helper. In Vanilla Classic, the box binds when used and requires 1 Snowball each time you summon the helper, so unopened boxes can be traded or sold year-round.
Open the Gaily Wrapped Present after December 25
Winter's Little Helper comes from Red Helper Box, one of the four possible companion items inside the Gaily Wrapped Present.
The present appears beneath the Winter Veil trees in Ironforge and Orgrimmar starting December 25 and requires level 20 to open.
Red Helper Box is a random pet result
The Gaily Wrapped Present can contain Red Helper Box, Green Helper Box, Snowman Kit, or Jingling Bell.
That means the red helper is one possible companion reward rather than a guaranteed result.
A Snowball is required in Vanilla Classic
Red Helper Box requires one Snowball each time you summon Winter's Little Helper in Vanilla Classic.
Later World of Warcraft removed that reagent requirement, so current retail behavior should not be used for the Vanilla version.
Trade the unopened box if needed
Red Helper Box binds when used.
Because it remains tradable before use, collectors can obtain one from another player or the Auction House even after Winter Veil has ended.
Winter's Little Helper is the red variant
Red Helper Box summons the female Winter's Little Helper. Green Helper Box summons the male Father Winter's Helper.
The two are separate collectibles with otherwise matching Vanilla acquisition rules.
During the majestic Winter Veil celebration, these faithful companions spread joy throughout the land. The rest of the year, they are busy.
