How to get Winter Reindeer
From December 25 through the end of Feast of Winter Veil, open the Gaily Wrapped Present beneath the holiday tree in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. Characters must be level 20 to open this present. It contains one of four companion items, including the Jingling Bell that summons Winter Reindeer. Jingling Bell binds when used, so it can be traded or sold before a collector uses it. In Vanilla Classic, summoning Winter Reindeer consumes a Snowball.
Open the Winter Veil pet gift
Starting December 25, the Gaily Wrapped Present appears beneath the Winter Veil tree in Ironforge and Orgrimmar.
The level-20 gift can contain Jingling Bell, Snowman Kit, Green Helper Box, or Red Helper Box, so Winter Reindeer is one possible result rather than a guaranteed reward.
Use the Jingling Bell to summon Winter Reindeer
Jingling Bell is the companion item associated with Winter Reindeer.
Unlike Tiny Snowman, the reindeer follows the collector around after being summoned.
Keep Snowballs if you want to summon it later
The Vanilla Classic Jingling Bell requires one Snowball each time you summon the reindeer.
The pet item itself does not expire, so collectors who stock Snowballs can keep using it outside the active holiday period.
The bell can be traded year-round
Jingling Bell binds when used rather than when looted.
Unopened bells can therefore appear on the Auction House throughout the year, providing an alternative for collectors who miss the holiday gift or receive one of the other three pets.
Do not confuse the pet with reindeer mount effects
Winter Veil also includes Fresh Holly and Preserved Holly, which temporarily transform a player's mount into a reindeer.
Those holiday mount effects are separate from Winter Reindeer, the permanent companion summoned by Jingling Bell.
The Pet Journal jokes that the Winter Reindeer has had enough time inside wrapped holiday presents.
