How to get Father Winter's Helper
Starting December 25, characters level 20 or higher can open the Gaily Wrapped Present beneath the Winter Veil tree in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. The present contains one of four companion items: Green Helper Box, Red Helper Box, Snowman Kit, or Jingling Bell. Green Helper Box summons Father Winter's Helper. In Vanilla Classic, the box binds when used and requires 1 Snowball each time you summon the helper, so unopened boxes can be traded or sold year-round.
Open the Gaily Wrapped Present after December 25
Father Winter's Helper comes from Green Helper Box, one of the four possible companion items inside the Gaily Wrapped Present.
The present is available beneath the Winter Veil trees in Ironforge and Orgrimmar starting December 25 and requires level 20 to open.
Green Helper Box is one of four possible pet rewards
The Gaily Wrapped Present can contain Green Helper Box, Red Helper Box, Snowman Kit, or Jingling Bell.
Receiving the green box is therefore a random holiday outcome rather than a guaranteed reward from the present.
Keep Snowballs to summon the helper
In Vanilla Classic, Green Helper Box requires one Snowball each time you summon Father Winter's Helper.
The Snowball requirement was removed years later, so modern retail descriptions should not be applied to the Vanilla companion.
The unopened box can be traded
Green Helper Box binds when used rather than when looted.
Collectors can buy or trade an unopened box after Winter Veil ends, making the Auction House a valid route outside the holiday.
The green and red helpers are separate companions
Green Helper Box summons the male Father Winter's Helper, while Red Helper Box summons the female Winter's Little Helper.
They are separate collectible companions even though their acquisition rules are otherwise nearly identical.
These off-season allies work tirelessly to prepare for the Feast of Winter Veil, and would appreciate not being disturbed the rest of the year.
