Spirit of Summer is the original Midsummer Fire Festival companion, earned by carrying the flames of four dangerous dungeons back to a Festival Flamekeeper.

How to get Spirit of Summer

During the Midsummer Fire Festival, characters level 50 or higher can accept the level-60 quest A Light in Dark Places from a Festival Flamekeeper in a faction capital. Touch the festival bonfires inside Lower Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Scholomance, and Stratholme, then return to the Flamekeeper. The original quest rewards the bind-on-pickup Captured Flame, which summons the Spirit of Summer.

Accept A Light in Dark Places during Midsummer

Festival Flamekeepers in the original faction capital cities offer A Light in Dark Places during the Midsummer Fire Festival. The quest is level 60 and requires level 50.

This is the original Vanilla acquisition for the Spirit of Summer. The pet comes from the quest reward Captured Flame rather than from a normal vendor purchase.

Touch the four dungeon bonfires

The quest sends you into Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Scholomance, and Stratholme. Each dungeon contains a Midsummer bonfire that must be touched before you return to the Flamekeeper.

The Blackrock Spire flame is in Lower Blackrock Spire near the ogre area after the spiders. The Dire Maul flame is in Dire Maul North after Guard Slip'kik. The Scholomance flame is in the Viewing Room, and the Stratholme flame is on the live/Scarlet side near the area associated with Timmy the Cruel.

Plan for endgame dungeon access

Although the quest can be accepted at level 50, its objectives are inside high-level dungeons. A normal collector should plan around dungeon groups, keys, and the routes needed to reach each fire rather than treating this as a simple holiday travel quest.

You only need to interact with the bonfires. The challenge is reaching all four safely while the event is active.

Return for Captured Flame

After touching all four fires, return to the Festival Flamekeeper who completes the quest. Captured Flame summons the Spirit of Summer and is bind on pickup in the Vanilla ruleset.

The reward is therefore tied directly to completing the seasonal quest on the character collecting the companion.

This little piece of summer smells of warm evenings and lightning storms. If you look closely, you might be able to make out a face.
